Ugandan songstress Ava Peace has opened up about surviving an abusive relationship, shedding light on the physical and emotional trauma she endured, and encouraging other young women to walk away from toxic partners.

In a heartfelt interview, the fast-rising singer revealed that for a long time she suffered in silence, hiding the pain inflicted by her former partner.

The abuse, she said, involved both manipulation and repeated beatings, an experience she has carried with her for years.

“At first, I kept it private; I could not speak about what I was going through, but later on, I realised that I was not the only person going through it, and that is why I decided to open up,” Ava Peace shared.

Though she chose not to name her abuser, Ava said her decision to share her experience was driven by a desire to heal and to help others find their voice.

“I hope that he will not do it to someone else,” she added, expressing her hope that speaking out might prompt reflection and change in the individual responsible.

Ava Peace’s courage has sparked conversations around intimate partner violence, particularly among young women in the entertainment industry who often face pressure to maintain silence for the sake of their image or career.

Her message was clear: healing begins with honesty.

“You don’t have to stay in a relationship that breaks you,” she said. “There’s always something better waiting.”

Since leaving her past behind, Ava has found support and encouragement in fellow musician Mudra Viral, real name Alfa Sebunya.

The two have not only built a personal relationship but also a strong professional bond.

Their collaboration on the hit song Shabada became a breakthrough moment for Ava and marked the start of her musical ascent.

Mudra has publicly stood by her side, and many credit their partnership with giving Ava the confidence and space to flourish, both artistically and emotionally.

Now focused on her music and personal growth, Ava Peace says she’s in a better place and hopes her story will empower others to break free from cycles of abuse.

“I found my strength when I stopped hiding,” she said. “Now I want others to know they can too.”

Celebrated Ugandan singer and songwriter Asha Naava Grey Zziwa, popularly known as Naava Grey, surprised Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, the head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), with a heartfelt gesture of appreciation this afternoon.

The surprise, which took place on February 25, 2025 at the ONC headquarters in Kyambogo, was Naava Grey’s way of thanking Hajjat Namyalo for her immense support during her recently concluded live concert at Kampala Serena Hotel.

The Valentine’s Day concert, held on February 14, 2025, was a resounding success, drawing an overwhelming audience that exceeded expectations.

Naava Grey personally delivered a bouquet of flowers and a cake to Hajjat Namyalo, expressing deep gratitude for her unwavering support. She acknowledged that Hajjat Namyalo played a crucial role in ensuring the concert’s success, not only by purchasing a significant number of tickets for herself and her team but also by mobilizing the Bazzukulu to attend in large numbers. The support filled up Serena Hotel, making Naava Grey’s first-ever live concert a historic moment in her career.

Speaking after handing over the gifts, Naava Grey reflected on how nervous she was about the turnout for her debut concert. She credited Hajjat Namyalo for believing in her and giving her the confidence to put on an unforgettable show.

“I owe much of this success to Hajjat Namyalo. She believed in me and supported me in ways I couldn’t have imagined,” she said, her voice filled with emotion.

In response, Hajjat Namyalo commended Naava Grey for delivering a spectacular show and emphasized the importance of supporting local talent. She noted that uplifting young Ugandan artists is part of her broader vision to empower the Bazzukulu and promote cultural growth.

“Music is a powerful tool that brings people together and speaks to the soul. Naava Grey is one of the brightest stars we have, and I am glad to have played a small part in her journey,” she said, adding that Naava was one of a kind because many artists rarely return to show appreciation after achieving success.

She urged Naava Grey to continue chasing her musical dreams and encouraged Ugandan artists to support each other.

“When we support each other, we rise together,” she said, assuring that the ONC will always stand by artists who use their talent to inspire and uplift communities. She praised Naava Grey’s music for its deep messages and cultural richness, emphasizing the importance of celebrating and investing in homegrown talent.

Naava Grey reiterated her gratitude and promised her fans even more music and live performances.

“This is just the beginning. I am overwhelmed by the love and support I’ve received, and I’m more determined than ever to continue making music that resonates with the hearts of Ugandans,” she said.

Her Valentine’s Day concert was an unforgettable experience for fans, featuring performances of her biggest hits like Ninga Omuloge and Soka Lami.

Dressed in an elegant all-white outfit, she took the stage at 9:30 PM, opening with Aliba Wani, the song that introduced her to the music scene after her stint on Tusker Project Fame.

The audience passionately sang along to tracks like Aliba Omu and Ninga Omuloge, their voices nearly drowning out the artist.

Special performances with fellow musicians, including Mun*G, Bruno K, Kenneth Mugabi, and Joshua Baraka, elevated the night even further. The grand finale came with Nteredde, a song that beautifully blends soulfulness with an infectious groove.

With a packed venue, top-tier production by Fenon Records, and an electrifying performance, the night marked a milestone in Naava Grey’s career. Her journey has only just begun, and Uganda is ready for more.

The ongoing feud between local musicians Patrick Mulwana, popularly known as Alien Skin, and Pius Mayanja, alias Pallaso, took a dramatic turn as Alien Skin reported Pallaso to Katwe Police Station, accusing him of theft and property destruction.

Alien Skin claims Pallaso and his gang stole UGX 6 million, vandalised five vehicles, and shattered windows at his residence in Makindye, Kampala. The allegations follow a series of violent confrontations between the two musicians and their respective groups.

The feud reportedly began during the New Year’s Mpele Festival, where Alien Skin and his gang forcibly removed Pallaso from the stage and assaulted him. Hours later, Pallaso allegedly retaliated by storming Alien Skin’s home in Makindye with his gang, wielding weapons such as pangas, hammers, and stones.

Eyewitnesses reported that Alien Skin hid in the ceiling to escape the attack, emerging only after Pallaso and his group had left. Videos and images of the altercation have since circulated widely on social media, fueling public outrage.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the case, stating that they are investigating charges of aggravated robbery and malicious property damage.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the altercation stemmed from a disagreement during a performance in Buloba, Wakiso District,” Onyango explained. “The attacks on Alien Skin’s residence occurred at approximately 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. on January 2, 2025, resulting in significant property damage and injuries to two of his associates.”

The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at Kiruddu Hospital. Police have also identified victims of the attack, including Joseph Nyanzi, Julius Mugabi, and Becker.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has issued a warning to musician gangs, emphasizing that they are not above the law. However, the police have faced criticism for alleged double standards, as no action was taken when Alien Skin’s gang reportedly attacked the National Unity Platform (NUP) offices and other venues in recent weeks.

Alien Skin and his associates have been linked to a series of violent incidents, including attacks on security guards at Nsambya Hospital and thefts at Buganda Kingdom’s Nkuuka event. Police arrested 30 individuals at Nkuuka, though it remains unclear if they were connected to Alien Skin’s gang.

Calls for Intervention

Prominent music promoter and Minister for Youth and Children, Balaam Barugahara, has urged law enforcement to intervene before the rivalry escalates further.

He called for an end to the violence, stressing the need for musicians to resolve disputes peacefully.

As investigations continue, both musicians face growing scrutiny over their actions, with many calling for accountability and an end to the chaos plaguing Uganda’s music industry.

Eddy Kenzo has rubbished the idea of changing his religion for his wife-to-be, Phiona Nyamutoro, responding with, “Why would I change?” when questioned about it.

“I don’t see the world as others do. Everyone has their perspective. It’s about faith, not religion… It’s about how you appreciate and believe in your God.”

According to the “Balipira Boda” hitmaker, those stirring up the conversation about religion are attempting to create division.

“They are using the situation between Kenzo and Phiona to push their ill-intentions. But anyone knowledgeable knows we all worship one God.”

Eddy Kenzo also confirmed that Nyamutoro’s family has not asked him to convert from Islam.

“That’s not true,” he said when questioned about reports that the wife’s family had asked him to change his religion. “That is propaganda… Mere earthly talk… Why would they want me to change religion? They’ve never even mentioned it.”

According to the fashionista, Kenzo, born Edirisa Musuuza, is considering changing his religion as a prerequisite for his marriage to the Minister of State for Minerals, Phiona Nyamutoro.

Her post read in part: “Eddy Kenzo will have to convert to Christianity as one of the demands from Nyamutoro’s parents to marry their daughter.” However, it should be noted that Minister Nyamutoro’s parents have publicly expressed openness and support for their daughter’s marriage to a man who may not fit the traditional mould—a musician.

In an interview, Nyamutoro’s father, Patrick Aperu, stated that he had no say in his daughter’s choice of husband.

The loud-talking educator and political commentator says he has gone through hoops and bounds to keep his daughter on track.

His parental instincts once forced him to follow his daughter into a major city hangout to see what she was doing at night.

He says the idea was sold to him by Pastor Martin Ssempa of Makerere Community Church.

“We decided with Ssempa to go to Cayenne (known now as The Villa) and spent a night there from 10 pm to 4 am,” Gashumba recounted on NRG Radio yesterday.

“It was as if we were in Luzira Upper Prison. Kids were jumping like frogs… we saw all tribes of alcohol. I did not know there was a bottle of alcohol that cost 4 million.”

At the time, Gashumba says he was concerned that his young daughter was earning too much money and spending all of it.

“My challenge was, this girl is making a lot of money; where does it go? She was hosting a show and getting 5 million,” he recalled.

“Afterwards we had an argument about the money and we agreed that she must invest 60 per cent of what she was earning.

“I told her I know you are in show business, but you can spend 40% and invest the rest because by the time you get to 30-35 years, you may not have the opportunity to earn that money.”

Frank Gashumba has had an on-and-off relationship with his daughter, stirred often by her eccentric lifestyle and dating life.

At times he has come out public to disown his daughter citing grave misunderstandings.

During the interview yesterday, Gashumba said although he has at times blamed himself, he does not feel like he has failed as a father.

“I have at times felt disappointed but when I speak to other parents, they are going through worse with their kids,” he said.

Internet sensation Shifrah, who skyrocketed to fame with her viral “Hoozambe” challenge video, has received a heartwarming gesture from a generous businessman amidst a tumultuous period in her life.

Don Chris, moved by her story, surprised Shifrah with a brand new iPhone and a supply of groceries for her family, bringing a much-needed ray of hope to the young star.

Shifrah’s rise to internet stardom over the past two weeks has been nothing short of meteoric. Her “Hoozambe” video took social media by storm, amassing millions of views and even attracting a remix by a well-known artist. This sudden surge in popularity opened up new work opportunities and thrust her into the limelight.

However, the path to fame has not been without its challenges. Shifrah’s phone was stolen, severing her primary connection to her burgeoning fanbase and potential opportunities.

Adding to her distress, her boyfriend ended their relationship after seeing the viral video, questioning her actions in the clip. Heartbroken and disconnected, Shifrah was forced to rely on her brother’s phone to stay connected.

The unexpected gift from Don Chris came as a beacon of hope. The businessman’s generosity touched Shifrah deeply, providing her with the tools she needed to continue her journey. “I was overwhelmed with gratitude and relief,” Shifrah said, her voice breaking with emotion. “His kindness has given me the strength to keep going.”

During an appearance on Sanyuka TV on the evening of June 12, Shifrah shared her rollercoaster experience with viewers. “I was at work when the video was posted, and everyone was telling me about a trending video that I didn’t know about. It went so viral that when my boyfriend saw it, he broke up with me, questioning why I had to sit on another man’s lap like that. I am now very much single and searching,” she revealed candidly.

Despite the personal and professional upheavals, Shifrah remains optimistic about her future. With her new phone and a supportive community rallying behind her, she is ready to embrace the opportunities that come her way.

Nigerian Afrobeat musician, entrepreneur, and record producer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has intimated that he might be quitting the entertainment scenes.

The father of 6 highlighted that once he releases his latest project, an album that he’s been working on, then that is it from him.

Davido through his socials explained that he had come to this decision due to some of his Nigerian counterparts in the industry occasionally taking jabs at him, picking unnecessary fights with him and so much more all because he was dominating the scene.

Taking to his X account, the ‘Unavailable’ crooner put up a post addressing his haters as well as seemingly promising to give them the “peace” they have for so long.

“Y’all niggas want me out of the game that bad? Oya after the next album I no do again. So una fit get peace,” Davido’s post read.

His post was in reaction to some doctored posts about him that were making rounds on social media showcasing the Grammy nominee donning female underwear.

This is not the first time the father of 6 has complained about people in the industry being uncomfortable because of him being around. If you recall, quite recently, the ‘IF’ hitmaker opined that since he came into the industry, most of his colleagues haven’t experienced peace of mind.

Just recently, the star was involved in a heated online brawl with his colleague, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid aka Starboy. The two exchanged words as they mocked each other in a bid to prove who was a better artist overall.
